February 2022
Christmas and the Lunar New Year have come and gone, and we are now into Lent. While some of us had been feasting and shopping during the festive period, our generous donors have, over the last 3 months, responded to our call for donations, and their contributions have benefited many of our rough sleepers on the streets and needy walk-in individuals.
We would like to acknowledge our donors, who contributed items such as groceries vouchers, EZ-link cards, toiletries, medicated oil, sleeping mats, dry rations, surgical masks, etc., which we then distributed to our beneficiaries. The Outreach Office would like to express our deepest gratitude to all who responded readily and generously.
If you are thinking of how you can contribute and support the effort and mission of our parish, it’s good to first examine our true intentions before packing our unwanted and used items to church as donations. People discard them in the name of “donation”, hoping someone else will benefit from this.
Following from the words of St Mother Teresa above, did you feel a pinch of “hurt” when you dropped off the items in your last donation?
Lent is the season to prepare us for the glorious resurrection of Christ. We dedicate time for Prayer, intentional Fasting and Almsgiving so that we can appreciate the sufferings and sacrifices of others. If you are looking to make this Lent more meaningful, we invite you to spend some time in prayer and ask the Lord to show you the areas that you can support the outreach effort.
We are currently looking for the following items that would benefit our brothers and sisters:
5 refurbished laptops for ex-offenders and low-income individuals who would like to learn new skills through government training agencies
50 pieces of EZ-link cards with stored value of $20
50 pieces of $10 Groceries vouchers
6 brand new sleeping pillows
If you would like to contribute any of these items, please reach out to me at outreach.stmary@catholic.org.sg before purchasing them in case the items have already been fulfilled.
Thank you for your generous contributions and may you have a blessed Lent!
